We had a great time in New York! I can't believe how much we packed into two days! The subway turned out to be very efficient and made it possible for us to cover so much ground. We woke up at 2:50 a.m. Thanksgiving morning and were at the subway station by 3:30. This is the view we saw as we got off the subway at Herald Square! This is what the show looks like at 4:20 a.m. if anyone was wondering. The crowds weren't bad at all and there were tons of open spots along the barricades to get a spot. However, the public isn't allowed to view the parade on 34th street at all. So we got the closest possible spot to Herald Square, which was a few blocks north.
Apparently each act gets a chance to practice their performance in Herald Square before the parade starts, so thats what was happening when we arrived.
Even though the parade starts at 9, because we were at the end of the parade route, it didn't begin for us until 10, so we had been waiting 5 1/2 hours outside before the parade even began! So total, we were at our spot for 8 1/2 hours! We were frozen through by the time it was over.
Here are some photos! We were shaking when it started and couldn't decide if it was because we were cold or excited
Tom Turkey!
Kanye West, I booed as he went by cause he's an idiot
Jimmy Falon
Jessica Simpson
And the true star of the show, Santa
After the parade we shopped and it started to rain, so we headed back to the apartment in Brooklyn. We then scouted out an open restaurant and ate Thanksgiving dinner at Applebee's. We went to bed at 8 p.m.
Here's the place we stayed! Thanks again Lydia for helping us find a place!
Friday morning we slept in a little bit, and rode the subway into Manhattan.
We went to Times Square
The Today Show
The Christmas Tree
We saw a matinee show of Mary Poppins!
We made it to bed around midnight and woke up at five to drop Abby off at the airport and drive the 11 hours back home. It was a wonderful trip and I still can't believe that it all happened in just 3 days!
